An Update on my Working week working on your behalf

It has a been a busy couple of weeks and I haven’t had a chance to do my regular round up of some of the work I’ve been doing on behalf of residents in Hunslet, Beeston, Leeds City Centre, and the riverside communities.

On Tuesday 27th August I caught up with Cllr Scopes to discuss cross-ward issues between both Hunslet & Riverside and Beeston & Holbeck Ward and decide on ongoing joint priorities between both wards along the border communities.

I then attended the regular St Peter Court Coffee morning to update residents about on-going issues in the Hunslet Moor and Beeston area around the development.

On Wednesday 28th, I attended a meeting at South Leeds Stadium to hear the development plans for South Leeds FC and to also hear their views on the proposed development of 4G pitched at the stadium.

On Thursday 29th, I attended a meeting at Cross Flatts Park with the Friends of Cross Flatts Parks and Beeston in Bloom to work on the upcoming Heritage Day in the park later in September.

I then attended the Joint Plans Panel Chairs meeting where I received updates on a variety of planning related matters, including an update on the Housing Needs Assessment, and National Planning Policy Framework consultation.

Later that evening I then attended the Labour Group for an update on administration wide priorities and cross-council wide work.

On Friday 30th, I attended a site visit at the Hunslet Club with the Green Spaces Team to look at how to address vegetation overgrowth and accessibility across the site boundary, which is currently managed by the Council.

I ended the day attending the launch event for Pride of Place, Leeds new LGBTQ+ community centre in Leeds City Centre part if the ward.

On Wednesday 4th September, I attended a planning update around the developing transport strategy for Leeds as part of the local plan update.

I then attended the Inner South Community Committee to hear updates from West Yorkshire Police, Green Spaces Team regarding the recent tree damage caused by the recent storm, but also to award grant funding to a variety of projects.

I ended the evening attending the consultation event at Leeds Dock about their future plans for the dockside at the development.

On Thursday 5th, I chaired the South and West Plans Panel before heading to the Hunslet Carr Residents Association in the evening to update residents on several projects in the area and to answer their questions.

On Friday 6th, I attended a site visit in Hunslet Carr about the restoration of Sandon Grove field after National Highways complete their work on the site for the A621 works.

I then attended the first meeting of the new Problem Solving Group of Penny Pocket Park, where we set out the early areas of work needed and what would need to happen in the mid to long-term to make this area safe and welcoming.

I finished the day attending a Gambian Welfare Society cultural event and to hear abut the good work they are doing to support not just their community, but the wider Inner South of Leeds.

On Sunday 8th I attended the South Leeds Kitchen event at St Lukes Church and had a fantastic meal with other members of the community.

During all this I have been working on resident casework and developing issues across the ward. I have a significant amount of work to get through, and I know there are still some people waiting for replies – I will be caught up within the next week.
