Dear Resident(s),
Pepper Road to Westbury Grove and North Place Ginnel: This has been ordered and, once delivered, will be installed.
Woodhouse Hill Drive Road Surface: This resurface is still being delayed by Yorkshire Water. The Council’s legal team is still working through this. Letters have been sent to residents to update them.
Rear Sandon Place Embankment Works: Snagging work is now being carried out, and we are awaiting a date for when the work will be done to smooth and grass. A quote for a boundary fence has been requested but is not likely to be delivered until January.
Belle Isle Road and Balm Road Pavement Mounting: This work is due by the end of this calendar week.
Montcalm Crescent and Braithwaite Row Junction Surface Repairs: We finally have a quote for the works at the junction of Braithwaite Row and Belle Isle Road. This only came today and is £4000. Montcalm Crescent is due to be included in other road works, but no date has yet been given.
Leasowe Recreation Improvements: Updated plans and costs are due by the end of the calendar year. Planning is now chasing the developer for the overdue payment related to funding this project.
Royals Close Chicane: Funding approved and now on order to be installed. Should be done by the end of the calendar year.
Moor Road Pavement Parking: West Yorkshire Police have this on their patrol route to issue tickets.
Royal Drive Pavement Parking: West Yorkshire Police have this on their patrol route to issue tickets. Highways Leeds is considering what extra restriction can be considered to keep the area clear, but they are concerned this will result in displaced parking elsewhere on the Royal estate.
Missing Pepper Road Bins: These have still not been delivered to the parks team, and they are chasing the order.
Missing Pepper Road Noticeboard Door: This has been ordered and, once delivered, will be installed.
Stourton War Memorial: We’re now speaking with First Direct to gain approval for the removal of some of the bushes around the memorial to allow the installation of the history boards.
Arthington View A-frame: Leeds Fed has now removed the stone at the A-frame that was being used for antisocial behaviour. Highways are due to provide a quote for a dropped kerb in the new year.
Telford Terrace Hedge: This has now been cut back and the footpath made clear.
Hunslet Lake Whip Planting: The public is invited to attend this event on Friday, 3rd January, at 10 am or 1 pm. Please email woodlandcreation@leeds.gov.uk for details.
Westbury Grove Greenspace: Sadly, National Highways has said they cannot plant boundary trees at this location as hope due to serviced they had not mapped. We’re still keen to create an improved and usable public space at this location and provide a better visual boundary for residents. Greenspaces have been asked to create a new plan for the area with costings by the end of the municipal year.
Antisocial Behaviour around Hunslet Carr Primary School: There have been increased issues of this. We have arranged for the head to meet with a senior manager from the Leeds Antisocial Behaviour, West Yorkshire Police, and Safer Stronger Communities. The young persons are well known and are being engaged with by the Youth Service and/or Youth Justice.
These are complicated issues as we don’t want to push these young people into the criminal justice system if it can be avoided.
These young people are also linked to the antisocial behaviour around the Penny Hill Centre, Community Hub and Library, and the Involve Centre.
Balm Road/Belle Isle Road/Moor Road Junction Red Light Violation: We’re aware of a marked increase in complaints regarding this, and a request for monitoring equipment has been sent to Highways Leeds to do the initial data collection checks.
We're chasing the timescale on this happening. If there is sufficient evidence, a request can be made for a red-light violation NPR camera to be installed.
Selective Licensing Consultation: The consultation is still ongoing, and feedback can still be given up until the 13th of December 2024 at https://www.leeds.gov.uk/.../selective-licensing....
Antisocial Behaviour Around Arthington Stores: West Yorkshire Police and the Antisocial Behaviour Team are aware of the issues in the area and the link to a specific individual. Both are asking for residents to report issues and provide statements, as it is making it difficult to process formal enforcement due to a lack of evidence.
Crossing for Middleton Railway near Moor Road: We have now formally requested an updated crossing review for this location to see if we can get a pedestrian crossing installed. We’re keen to support the ongoing development of the museum following the first phase of Little Moor Park and support the process for a new long lease.
We’ve already raised a request to the West Yorkshire Combined Authority to see if one of the buses in the area can be diverted at least once every half hour from across the city route to allow more direct public transport access. This might not happen in the short term, but we’re keen it is on the radar, ready for the franchising of the bus service in 2027.
Royal Armouries Events: We’ve started to work with the team at the Royal Armouries to look at ways to get more people from the area to attend the museum in general, but also get better access to their premium paid-for events. We’ll be having a meeting early next year to look at this with them in more detail.
Hunslet History Interpretation Sign at the Library: We’ve now formally commissioned work to create history signs, like the Bile Bean Sign, for the new public space outside the library as promised. Our contractor has already met with Hunslet. Remembered for some initial feedback, and initial drafts will be prepared before the end of January 2025.
