After taking the difficult decision earlier this year to part company with the commissioned arts group to produce the mural on this wall, as they were not able to demonstrate being able to deliver the commission, we have successfully recruited a new artist.
Anwyn, the commissioned artist, will be consulting with residents and groups over the next few months to inform the design of the mural, with a key focus around the concept of celebrating the past, present, and future for Hunslet.
In addition, I've been told the dynamic lighting system for the external walls of the Hunslet Community Hub and Library is due to be installed on November 7th l, and assuming all goes well, I'm hopeful we'll be able to light the building up red for Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day.
Finally, I have also commissioned two nature interpretation boards to explain the biodiversity of the new planters, and the history interpretation boards to talk more about the areas heritage. These will likely be installed sometime in the first quarter of next year once designed and ordered.
There is still lots to do with this space but I'm glad phase 1 is now nearly complete and I can work on trying to identify funding for phase 2.
