My Weekly Round up of Work

Here is my round up of work I've done in addition to casework and things I have posted throughout the week.

On Saturday 21st, I attended the Beeston Volunteers Party, an annual event when all the volunteers from across Beeston come and celebrate a year of giving back to the community. It was great to see some many of the people that help make LS11 a brighter place.

On Monday 23rd, I dropped by Involve Leeds to catch-up with the site manger Claire. Later in the afternoon I attended a briefing on the Councils current work on Asset Based Community Development, also known as ABCD, and the future work ahead.

On Tuesday 24th, I attended Lead Governor Safeguard Training as part of my role as a governor at four of the ward’s local primary schools. I then dropped by The Vale in Beeston for their open day to see some of the work being done there to support the wellbeing of a wide range of local people. I then bobbed across to the new community café at Involve Leeds and had myself a pot of tea and scone to celebrate its first day open.

On Wednesday 25th, I attended a meeting at Hunslet St Mary’s CofE Primary Academy to speak to the lead Ofsted Inspector in my role as Chair of the Local Governing Board. I then attended the “official” opening of Revive in Hunslet with Cllr Mohammed Rafiq – I even got myself a bargain on some wonderful plant pots. I then attend the second half of a staff Inclusivity event at Leeds City Council as part of Inclusivity Week. I then returned to Hunslet St Mary's C of E Primary School for the Governing Board, where after two years, I handed the Chair over to a new governor before hearing the interim Ofsted judgment. I finished the day attending the Food Co event at St. Lukes Church, Holbeck and speaking to residents over a lovely warm meal made by volunteers for the community.

On Thursday 26th, I met with Steve from Community Values to talk about the projects they had planned in Hunslet, including a Warm/Welcome Space this winter. I then caught-up with the gardening group at the Friends of Hunslet Moor Community Hut. I then attended the Groundwork Yorkshire AGM as a Leeds City Council appoint board member.

The meeting also included information on some of the great work being done by the charity. In the evening I attended the Hunslet Festival AGM and review of the year. The team felt positive, and we all agreed that we felt we could make the event even bigger in 2025.

On Friday 27th I attended the Assisi Place coffee morning in Hunslet and lost on the bingo (as normal), I then attended the Creative Communities Pride of Place exhibition at Involve Leeds and saw some fantastic collections of art created by residents. I then had meetings about antisocial behaviour on the Greenmount with a few other residents before heading to the Civic Hall for meeting in my role of Men Health Champion.

Today, I have been holding my monthly advice drop-ins at Hunslet and Dewsbury Road Community Hubs. I also drop-in to the table top sale at Involve Leeds.
