My Weekly Roundup of Work in the Ward

Here is my roundup of some of the work I've been doing for the residents of Hunslet, Beeston, Leeds City Centre and the riverside communities.

It's been a very busy few weeks of casework and dealing with emerging and ongoing issues across the ward, so this is the first chance I've had to provide a summary around in two weeks.

On Monday 29th I joined Leeds City Council Locality and Public Health officers to do a tour of Hunslet to help them understand the demographic geography of the area.

This is part of our plan to create a comprehensive Health Needs Assessment for Hunslet to inform future work priorities and support funding bid applications both for LCC and partners.

I also visited Involve Leeds to catch-up with the manager Claire in my role as Chair of Trustees, and to catch-up with residents at the Monday Breakfast Club.

In the evening I attended the Beeston Hill Community Association - Leeds to hear the concerns of local residents about drugs and other issues in the area.

On Tuesday 30 I joined the West Yorkshire Police - Leeds South's Multi-agency Call and raised several issues across Beeston and Hunslet. I will be arranging a similar update with West Yorkshire Police - Leeds City.

In the afternoon, I attended an update on the rollout of the new Leeds Sexual Health, in particular was encouraged to hear about their new online provision, including at home testing kit pathways, and great citywide out reach - developed inline with the feedback of service users.

In the evening I attended the Friends of Cross Flatts Park Committee. We discussed Bands in the Park, future events, and fundraising efforts to fix the Watsonia canopy.

On Wednesday 31st I did a second site visit to the disused tree pits on Beeston Hill with the Woodland Creation Team. We have now received permission by Highways Leeds to bring these back into use and are working on detailed costings for the work.

In the evening I attended the FoodCo meal at St. Lukes Church, Holbeck and caught-up with local people while sharing a taste meal.

On Thursday 1st I spent the whole day doing planning related work. Firstly I attended the Chair of Planning meeting and then charing South and West Plans Panel in the afternoon.

On Friday 2nd I attended the Leeds Markets Board and heard very encouraging updates on footfall, dwell time and trader demand at Kirkgate Market.

On Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th I spent time catching up with a number of community leaders and other residents from across Hunslet, Beeston and Leeds City Centre.

Monday 5th, Tuesday 6th and Wednesday 8th was spent catch-up on a significant amount of new casework, in particular around news issues in the city centre and along the riverfront.

But on Tuesday 6th I did have a chance to catch-up with BasementArtsProject to discuss a number of possible public arts projects.

Thursday 8th and Friday 9th was spend attending site visits across the ward and chasing up outstanding projects and looking at funding opportunities for others.

Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th, I actually took sometime off - which felt odd but I know have a clean house!

On Monday 12th I visited Leeds Watch to look at how effective our CCTV provision is being and to look to see if we need to consider redeploying local resources.

I also caught up with Cllr Mohammed Iqbal and we discussed future plans and focus areas over the next few months

I also had a number of meetings with local community leaders in Hunslet and Beeston regarding so local concerns.

As said above, this is all the while working on significant volumes of casework and progressing a number of outstanding projects and work across Hunslet, Beeston, Leeds City Centre, and the riverside.
